The article from USA is about the visual analogue scale (VAS) guided patient controlled analgesia (PCA).  The title is “Visual analogue scale specific patient-controlled analgesia (VAS Guided PCA)”.

There have some questions.  The authors should to be clarified and be added the following issues in the text.

  1. The clinical application of the report is important.  Please add the suggestion for the readers to apply this knowledge in routine clinical practice.
  2. The report has some limitations.   In addition, the patient education and co-operation are essential.

     Thank you so much

Apparently Safer and Futuristic VAS Guided PCA
Posted by Dr. Deepak Gupta on 17 Mar 2013 05:16:13 PM GMT

Dear Dr Amornyotin!

Thanks for the comments.

This type of PCA is yet not out-there. To my knowledge, all current PCA are single-button PCAs and numbered-remote PCAs are kind of futuristic so that readers or manufacturers can think, explore and confirm the validity of my shared opinion.

Secondly, the purpose of the numbered-remote PCA will be to ensure that only well-oriented and well-verse patients use PCA because that way PCA use will be more safe than Single-Button PCA. Anyway, poorly oriented patients are anyway an exclusion to use any patient-controlled analgesia because when there is incomplete sense and control over surroundings, it is imperative that PCA will be out of question for such patients.

Thanks once again
