  • What are the main claims of the paper and how important are they?

This study evaluates the accuracy of self-reported weight, height and BMI values in Spanish university students of 18 to 24 year-old, as well as related factors that may determine the BMI in such population.

  • Are these claims novel? If not, please specify papers that weaken the claims to the originality of this one.

    Yes

  • Are the claims properly placed in the context of the previous literature?

    Yes

  • Do the results support the claims? If not, what other evidence is required?

    Yes

  • If a protocol is provided, for example for a randomized controlled trial, are there any important deviations from it? If so, have the authors explained adequately why the deviations occurred?

    Yes

  • Is the methodology valid? Does the paper offer enough details of its methodology that its experiments or its analyses could be reproduced?

Newer WHO guidelines for WHR can be followed in their study.

  • Would any other experiments or additional information improve the paper? How much better would the paper be if this extra work was done, and how difficult would such work be to do, or to provide?

There is a need for further study with more sample size in different age group in both the genders to validate this result that the authors have mentioned.

  • Is this paper outstanding in its discipline? (For example, would you like to see this work presented in a seminar at your hospital or university? Do you feel these results need to be incorporated in your next general lecture on the subject?) If yes, what makes it outstanding? If not, why not?

    N/A

  • Other Comments:

It’s a good work in deed by the authors as self reported anthropometric measurements in any survey creates doubts related to its validity and the results thereafter. This paper initiates future works considering its limitations

  • What are the main claims of the paper and how important are they?

This study aims to examine the accuracy of self-reported weight, height, and BMI values in Spanish university students, as well as related factors that may determine the BMI in such population. Additionally, percentage body/trunk fat was measured using bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA). Finally, hip and waist circumference were obtained using standard procedures. The markers used were all important.

Yes, it satisfies to the extend the data supported.

  • If a protocol is provided, for example for a randomized controlled trial, are there any important deviations from it? If so, have the authors explained adequately why the deviations occurred?

Yes, the results were quite clear.

The Results can be Presented to have an Idea of the BMI trend in spanish Population.

Yes.  It would be a good seminar class for many various types of healthcare providers.

  • Other Comments:

It is very interesting that the article also examines waste circumference (WC).  It shows that BMI and WC, when combined, provide a valuable predictor of the variation in health risk.  Also, it is significant that it demonstrates that self-reportd BMI is very often lower than measured BMI thus underestimating the prevalence of obesity.
