  • What are the main claims of the paper and how important are they?

This article emphasises the learning method which should be shifted to teaching by students and discussion among students under the supervision of a teacher. Just-in-Time Teaching (JiTT) as a way of learning where the students are the centers of learning. This type of study methods are equivalent with that of PBL, CBL, roup discussions.

  • Are these claims novel? If not, please specify papers that weaken the claims to the originality of this one.

Such teaching modules are in practice already in many places.Authors should have worked on the effects of such techniques on the students performance, pre and post test anaysis.

  • Are the claims properly placed in the context of the previous literature?

    No. No work, methodology mentioned

  • Do the results support the claims? If not, what other evidence is required?

No. They should have been substantiated with a method, result, analysis and discussion which are lacking. It is just an Opinion of the author.

  • If a protocol is provided, for example for a randomized controlled trial, are there any important deviations from it? If so, have the authors explained adequately why the deviations occurred?

    NA

  • Is the methodology valid? Does the paper offer enough details of its methodology that its experiments or its analyses could be reproduced?

    No, Not mentioned.

  • Would any other experiments or additional information improve the paper? How much better would the paper be if this extra work was done, and how difficult would such work be to do, or to provide?

    NA

  • Is this paper outstanding in its discipline? (For example, would you like to see this work presented in a seminar at your hospital or university? Do you feel these results need to be incorporated in your next general lecture on the subject?) If yes, what makes it outstanding? If not, why not?

    NA

  • What are the main claims of the paper and how important are they?

The main claim is a novel way of teching and this is very important for all students and professors

  • Are these claims novel? If not, please specify papers that weaken the claims to the originality of this one.

Yes. Despite existing a long time, the practice of this way is novel.

  • Are the claims properly placed in the context of the previous literature?

Yes. The previous literature on teaching can involve these claims.

  • Do the results support the claims? If not, what other evidence is required?

Yes. The explanation provide shows us.

Yes. The paper offers details in mehtodology that can be reproduced.

  • Would any other experiments or additional information improve the paper? How much better would the paper be if this extra work was done, and how difficult would such work be to do, or to provide?

If this method could be spred out it will be more reliable.

  • Is this paper outstanding in its discipline? (For example, would you like to see this work presented in a seminar at your hospital or university? Do you feel these results need to be incorporated in your next general lecture on the subject?) If yes, what makes it outstanding? If not, why not?

Yes. It is very outstanding nowadays specially in our country, where theres is a discussion about the teaching of medicine. I would like to read more papres on this subject.

  • What are the main claims of the paper and how important are they?

Main claim of the paper is that web based education procedure like 'learning via just-in-time education' is a must need in the present era and it will be far more benificial to the students.

It is important because first, it is not a didactic one way type of teaching thus it involves both faculty and students. Second, learning by the students and retention of studied topics is more as compared to the years old conventional lectures. Third, it really test the depth of the faculty over the topic . Fourth, if it contains some audiovisual materials then it helps a lot to understand the topic well.

  • Are these claims novel? If not, please specify papers that weaken the claims to the originality of this one.

    Yes the claims are novel.

  • Are the claims properly placed in the context of the previous literature?

Yes the claims are properly placed

  • Do the results support the claims? If not, what other evidence is required?

Yes the results support the claims but i want to highlight one thing that the web based learning like 'Just-in-time education' are costlier than the previous conventional lectures. We need to compare these types of web based learning with conventional lectures in terms of money. Higher cost may preclude the wisespread use of these type of teaching in all levels of education.

  • If a protocol is provided, for example for a randomized controlled trial, are there any important deviations from it? If so, have the authors explained adequately why the deviations occurred?

Can not be commented. We need randomised controlled trials to concludes on these results.

  • Is the methodology valid? Does the paper offer enough details of its methodology that its experiments or its analyses could be reproduced?

    Yes

  • Would any other experiments or additional information improve the paper? How much better would the paper be if this extra work was done, and how difficult would such work be to do, or to provide?

Need randomised trials to prove it actually and also we have to compare in terms of costs associated with these learning procedures, To see actually that it can be accepted in all levels od educations and also in the developing and poor countries.

  • Is this paper outstanding in its discipline? (For example, would you like to see this work presented in a seminar at your hospital or university? Do you feel these results need to be incorporated in your next general lecture on the subject?) If yes, what makes it outstanding? If not, why not?

Yes. It is good to see the positive results for the just-in-time learning. It is now challanging the years old conventional lectural procedures in education field.

Just in Time Education
Posted by Prof. Sunil Kumar Joshi on 08 Jan 2013 04:49:24 AM GMT

  • What are the main claims of the paper and how important are they?

Just in Time Education is student centred tesching (learning) compared to the conventional method of teaching and is more effective than the later one.

  • Are these claims novel? If not, please specify papers that weaken the claims to the originality of this one.

In fact, it is not a new teaching methodology. In the last few decades, different types of medical education has been discussed and implemented in various medical institutions. Few of them got continuity and some perished.

  • Are the claims properly placed in the context of the previous literature?

Not properly. Literature review on JITT is not in place in this article.

  • Do the results support the claims? If not, what other evidence is required?

    NA

  • If a protocol is provided, for example for a randomized controlled trial, are there any important deviations from it? If so, have the authors explained adequately why the deviations occurred?

NA, its a personal opinion of the authors.

  • Is the methodology valid? Does the paper offer enough details of its methodology that its experiments or its analyses could be reproduced?

    NA

  • Would any other experiments or additional information improve the paper? How much better would the paper be if this extra work was done, and how difficult would such work be to do, or to provide?

Could be a better paper if a detailed review has ben done.

  • Is this paper outstanding in its discipline? (For example, would you like to see this work presented in a seminar at your hospital or university? Do you feel these results need to be incorporated in your next general lecture on the subject?) If yes, what makes it outstanding? If not, why not?

Its just a start of brainstorming.

  • Other Comments:

Most of the medical institutions these days are following either conventional teaching and PBL teaching. Both of them have positive as well as negative remarks. I would like to request the authors to make a comparson between JITT, PBL and the Conventional teaching.
