  • What are the main claims of the paper and how important are they?

The main aim is to associate the relationship of chronic periodontitis and C reactive protein levels in blood.

  • Are these claims novel? If not, please specify papers that weaken the claims to the originality of this one.

The focus area of research is interesting and much work is being done in the same field. The claims are not novel

  • Are the claims properly placed in the context of the previous literature?

Yes, But the last literature/research cited by authours dates to 2008-2009. post 2009 much work indeed has been done on the same field of interest, which the authors have not updated in their discussion. studies have proven association of periodontitis and CRP levels ( japanese study)

  • Do the results support the claims? If not, what other evidence is required?

    Yes

  • If a protocol is provided, for example for a randomized controlled trial, are there any important deviations from it? If so, have the authors explained adequately why the deviations occurred?

    Yes

  • Is the methodology valid? Does the paper offer enough details of its methodology that its experiments or its analyses could be reproduced?

    Yes

  • Would any other experiments or additional information improve the paper? How much better would the paper be if this extra work was done, and how difficult would such work be to do, or to provide?

The authors could have recorded the cardiovascular status of the subjects in the study.

  • Is this paper outstanding in its discipline? (For example, would you like to see this work presented in a seminar at your hospital or university? Do you feel these results need to be incorporated in your next general lecture on the subject?) If yes, what makes it outstanding? If not, why not?

    The paper is well written.

  • Other Comments:

Few grammatical errors, Eg: Body Mass Index (BMI) was measured to all subjects and the subjects who have more than 25kg/m2 have been excluded from the study. Also in discussion, the authors could have avoided the repetition of the exclusion criteria of the study in terms of BMI and obesity.

The authors' aim is to evaluate the association between chronic periodontal disease and cardiovascular risk factors like c-reactive protein levels in blood.

Yes- it would be a great lecture for a dental association.

  • Other Comments:

This is a very well organized and informative article.  It is written in a highly professional manner.  Periodontal disease is one of the major reasons for tooth loss.  The authors conclude that chronic periodontitis patients may have a high risk of getting cardiovascular diseases.
