Review of Clinical Effect of Plasma Exchange in Patients with Rheumatoid Arthritis
Posted by Mr. David M Henson on 31 Oct 2016 10:05:13 PM GMT Reviewed by Interested Peers

  • What are the main claims of the paper and how important are they?

They found that applying Plasma Exchange to patients leads to a benifical patient out come both measured in clinical terms and reported symptoms.

  • Are these claims novel? If not, please specify papers that weaken the claims to the originality of this one.

There is other papers cited in this paper discussing PE in RA. They do not even act as if it is the most origninal idea

  • Are the claims properly placed in the context of the previous literature?

They match other reports in the literature

  • Do the results support the claims? If not, what other evidence is required?

The figures indicate that PE works, and the say it does with text as well. Could use a better more open discription of data, they calculated significants but did not provide either the mean or the satistics. I would really like to see more statitics provided.

  • If a protocol is provided, for example for a randomized controlled trial, are there any important deviations from it? If so, have the authors explained adequately why the deviations occurred?

    they descirbe the method

  • Is the methodology valid? Does the paper offer enough details of its methodology that its experiments or its analyses could be reproduced?

I would like it to be a controlled study not just a case study.

Also no where does it describe what I-TPE and II-TPE means. It would seem to be two different methods of PE but no way described.

  • Would any other experiments or additional information improve the paper? How much better would the paper be if this extra work was done, and how difficult would such work be to do, or to provide?

I do not think further experiements are needed, just is not a strong randomized control trial just a set of cases

  • Is this paper outstanding in its discipline? (For example, would you like to see this work presented in a seminar at your hospital or university? Do you feel these results need to be incorporated in your next general lecture on the subject?) If yes, what makes it outstanding? If not, why not?

I would not think this is not outstanding just because it lacks proper controls to be a strong study.

  • Other Comments:

I do not think that the graphs are very effective. I do not think that a 3 demential graph is needed I would like it to convential bar graph in 2 dementions with a segmetn for I-TPE and II-TPE just not a 3 d graph makes it harder to read and does not provide extra detail.
