The article highlights management of Peyronies disease using ESWT. It also highlights the fact that majority of the patients did not benefit from the procedure.

This publication is important in that it has provided evidence that the This publication is important in that it has provided evidence that the percentage of patients with Peyronie’s disease who experienced improvement in their penile curvature following ESWT was not impressive, therefore ESWT. The authors concluded that ESWT should not be recommended as standard treatment for Peyronie’s disease.

Hauck and Weidner reviewed 21 original papers, 1 meta-analysis and 2 review published papers on ESWT for Peyronie’s disease. Analysing these studies systemically, they made the following observations:

ESWT seems to have an effect on penile pain during erection and on the improvement of sexual function.

It seems that the pain resolves faster after ESWT treatment than during the course of natural history.

The effect of plaque size and penile curvature is less impressive.

The most recent studies do not provide evidence that ESWT has an effect on curvature and plaque size. Despite the lack of severe side effects, the data concerning efficacy published to date do not justify recognising ESWT as evidence based standard procedure for the treatment of Peyronie’s disease. The illustrations in the manuscript have not come out well due to technical information technology reasons and these should be corrected. After ensuring that the numbers in the illustrated tables are available to the reader this manuscript should in my opinion not require any further revision.
