He then worked as a Research Associate in the area of structural biology at the Universities of Paris and Cambridge.He was an Assistant Professor of Medicinal Chemistry for five years at the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) before he joined Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, Hyderabad in 2001 to set up and lead their Molecular Modelling and Drug Design department. He joined TCS R&D in 2003, where he was lead-scientist in a multi-institution, multi-centre project on Improving the annotation of Malaria Parasite (Plasmodium falciparum) Genome and allied research.He holds an adjunct faculty position in the Centre for Computational Natural Sciences and Bioinformatics, International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Hyderabad.He is a Member of the Editorial Advisory Board of the Journal: Current Computer Aided Drug Design (Bentham).He is vice-president of a People's Science Forum (Jana Vignana Vedika) in Andhra Pradesh.Dr. Gopalakrishnan’s research interests are in the areas of Bioinformatics, Structural Biology and Drug Design.
