PhD - During my PhD I performed studies in oral tolerance and its relationship with the suppression of the Th17 cells in the EAE model. During this period I spent one year as a visiting researcher at the Prof. Howard Weiner´s Lab at the Harvard Medical School from 2006 to 2007.
Post-doc - During the post-doc I still evaluate the role or oral tolerance in th EAE model, focusing on CNS inflammation. Besides, I am also interested in evaluating the role of NMDA receptor signalling in cells of the immune system such as macrophages, dendritic cells and lymphocytes, both in the periphery and in the inflammed CNS during EAE and stroke. Along with glutamate, kynurenins, the result of tryptophan degradation by indoleamine-2,3- dioxigenase, are also among molecules with the capacity to bind to NMDAr receptors.

We are particularly interestes in neuroinflammation, more specifically in the role of neurotransmitters (glutamate and dopamine) as direct modulators of the immune response, specifically through the NMDAr.
The idea to establish a bank of researchers with its respective areas of research is very useful.
