During their rotation, the students meet with me 2-3 hours a week. I give formal lectures to the students on evidence-based medicine, quality of life studies, clinical immunology and transplantation.I have published extensively in transplant related topics in peer-reviewed and high impact journals, such as Transplantation, American Journal of Transplantation, American Journal of Kidney Diseases, New England Journal of Medicine, JAMA, British Journal of Surgery, Transplantation, American Journal of Transplantation, CJASN, JASN, American Journal of Nephrology, Diabetes and Kidney International.I co-authored a book entitled “The struggle for life: A psychological perspective of kidney disease and transplantation”, by LS Baines and RM Jindal. Publisher: Praeger, Westport, CT, USA, 2003. ISBN: 0-86569-323-4. The book received an excellent review in the American Journal of Kidney Diseases (2004;44:382)“For the selective reader, reading of the transcripts of the psychotherapist's art will be rewarded by a rare insight into the emotional world of transplant or dialysis patients”. My second book is entitled “The story of first kidney transplant in Guyana, South America, and lessons learnt for other developing countries”, by Rahul M. Jindal. Publisher: iUniverse, 2009.I set up the first and only Kidney Transplant Program in Guyana. I have also teamed up with the Ministry of Health in Guyana to undertake preventative measures for hypertension and diabetes, and eventually to prevent kidney failure. There are now regular clinics in Georgetown Hospital to screen kidney failure patients and 23 more patients are being evaluated.I also received my PhD (Middlesex University, London, UK) in “Improving quality of life, emotional states and medical compliance in recipients of kidney transplants”. I also successfully completed Master of Business Administration while I was engaged in clinical practice in South Dakota. This involved one class a week for 26 months.
