Dr. Sanjay Singh Negi is Additional Professor of Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Surgery and Liver Transplantation at Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences, New Delhi. After completing his MCh degree course in Surgical Gastroenterology, he further underwent training in Hepato-Biliary Surgery and Liver Transplantaion at the premier centres in the field like Asan Medical Centre (Korea) and Florence Nightingale Hospital (Turkey). He has been awarded Honorary European Diploma in Transplantation Surgery were unanimously approved by the Executive Committee and the Review Panel for Honorary Diplomas of the Division of Transplantation of the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS) and the European Board of Surgery (EBS) which work in close collaboration with the European Society of Organ Transplantation (ESOT). He was inducted as the first full time faculty, before the institute had become functional, and has been actively involved in planning and operationalization not only of surgical services but also the institute as a whole. The Department of HPB Surgery & Liver Transplantation is first of its kind in the nation and many other centres have subsequently emulated the trend thus initiated. After the operationalization of the institute he has played a pivotal role in the establishment of successful Liver Transplant Programme in the institute and the only one in the public sector hospitals in Delhi. Besides, he has expertise in performing pediatric Hepato-Biliary Surgery and Advanced Laparoscopic Procedures. He also played a central role in the initiation of structured training programme for surgeons in the field of HPB Surgery & Liver Transplantation in the form of 3 year MCh degree course duly recognized by the Medical Council of India and is the Assistant Dean of the Institute. The institute has the unique distinction of being the only centre in the entire nation for providing such a training course. He is a keen academician and has published over 35 research articles in indexed journals of repute, 10 chapters in books and one monogram. He has also delivered over 45 lectures at various national and international conferences. He is principal investigator in 9 on-going research projects in the institute and has extramural funding of INR 26,00,000/- for research. Moreover, he is actively involved in sensitizing the general public to the issue of organ donation and is a part of ongoing discussions regarding organ donation at Ministry of Health and Family welfare.
