Prof. Christine Nardini

Key Lab for Computational Biology, CAS-MPG Partner Institute for Computational Biology, Shanghai In
320 Yue Yang Road, Shanghai

Brief Biography:

After completing my master in biomedical engineering at the university of Bologna (Italy), I have worked for a couple of years in a biomedical company in the area of anti-arrhythmic devices. This has set the bases for my desire to work at the crossing of the scientific/engineering and clinical world, i.e. on translational medicine. I currently follow this interest as principal investigator Max Planck Chinese Academy of Sciences Partner institute for computational biology in Shanghai, where I am interested in the etiology and treatments of autoimmune diseases, and in particular rheumatoid arthritis. I work on this topic with the help of an interdisciplinary (computer science, engineering, biology, medicine) and multicultural (China, Italy, United Kingdom) group. We are in contact with hospital, produce our own molecular data and develop tools to analyze them that, we make available to other researchers in the field using open sources tools and standards, like bioconductor (for software), SMBL (for maps), MIAME (for microarray data) and the like.

What I think of the idea behind WebmedCentral:

I understand all the drawbacks of the current system, in particular the lengthy process and the limitations due to the choice of a small number of reviewers. I believe that the open process promoted by Webmedcentral can be a positive solution to this
