Professor and Head
Functional Genomics Laboratory, Faculty of Biology and Earth Science
Nicolaus Copernicus University, ul. Gagarina 9

Brief Biography:

Chandra Shekhar Pareek is University Professor of functional genomics at University of Nicolaus Copernicus, Torun, Poland, where he carries out research in functional genomics. Chandra S. Pareek was born in Bikaner, Rajasthan, India, and graduated the Veterinary Medicine at college of veterinary and animal husbandry, Bikaner, India. He has held the PhD in Animal Genetics in 1999, at the department of Animal Genetics, University of Warmia and Mazury, Olsztyn, Poland. During 1999-2000, he had the post doc fellowship at University of Helsinki, Helsinki, Finland. After post-doc, he joined in 2001 as Assistant professor at department of Animal Genetics, University of Warmia and Mazury, Olsztyn, Poland. In 2006, he has been awarded the associate professorship. In 2008, he has joined as associate professor at university of Nicolaus Copernicus, Torun, Poland. In May, 2009, he is appointed as Head of the Laboratory of Functional Genomics (LFG), at University of Nicolaus Copernicus, Torun, Poland. . In 2011, he is employed as University Professor. Chandra S. Pareek has carried out a series of pioneering experiments involving the immune-relevant gene markers (Lys-Mic), bovine genome scan, DNA pooling, genome-wide transcriptomic analysis. He has been successful with the first identification of immune-relevant lysozyme gene marker for natural resistance in cattle. His research was successfully applied to the genome scanning, DNA pooling, genome-wide tanscriptome analysis by cDNA-AFLP technologies in bovine genome. Chandra S.Pareek regularly makes national and international presentations for the animal genetics and genomics society. His presentations include integration of classical genetics towards functional genomics, emerging trends on functional genomics, emerging trends for mapping of quantitative trait loci and candidate gene discovery, Functional genomics in farm animal breeding, QTLs detections and genome scan procedure in dairy cattle breeding programs, Quantitative trait loci mapping in dairy cattle – current status, QTL analysis in cattle using selective DNA pooling approach, QTL marker for animal health trait. The current research objective of LFG is interdisciplinary translational cancer research, at newly Interdisciplinary Centre for Modern Technology (ICMT), [http://www.icnt.umk.pl/index.htm] NCU, Torun.
