Dr. Tomaso Aste

University of Kent and Autsralina National University
Physics
Canterbury Campus

Brief Biography:

Tomaso Aste was awarded a PhD in Material Sciences from the Politectico di Milano (‘90-‘94, second year Imperial College London). After two Post-Docs at the University of Strasbourg (FR) and at the University of Genoa (IT), in 2002 he obtained a Research Fellow permanent position at the School of Physics, at The Australian National University (Canberra, Australia), where in 2006, he was promoted Associate Professor. In 2009 he moved to UK taking a position as Reader in Materials at The School of Physics at The University of Kent in Canterbury UK.

Academic positions:

Associate Professor and Reader

Research interests:

After early studies on superconductivity and magnetism, my research interests have been in complex systems and complex materials by using geometrical and topological investigation tools within the framework of statistical mechanics. My recent research activities include: Biological Systems; Financial Systems; Granular Materials; Amorphous Materials; Porous Media; Packings; Information Filtering; Econophysics; Data Mining; Risk Management. These different topics are unified by a common aim: the understanding of the fundamental mechanisms responsible for the formation and evolution of complex structures both in real materials and in abstract phase-spaces. The common approach has been to combine techniques from network theory and statistical physics methods to encode the complex properties of these systems and extract information concerning their organization.

What I think of the idea behind WebmedCentral:

Very inetersting.
