Dr. Nicolas Wiernsperger

Brief Biography:


Born 1948; educated at Louis Pasteur University in Strasbourg(France) and University of Basel ( Switzerland). Head of Microcirculation Research Unit in Cerebral Vasqcular Diseases at Sandoz (Novartis) from 1974 to 1984; Senior Investigator for External Pharmacology Research at Lipha ( Merck KgA) from 1985 to 2005, Head of Diabetes Microvascular Research Unit at INSA Lyon ( Lyon University) from 1994 to 2005.

Dr Wiernsperger has published close to 120 articles, several reveiws on invitation as well as 2 books as Editor. He has been teaching pathophysiology and pharmacology of cardiometabolic diseases for many years at Dijon University and Rio de Janeiro State University. He was invited organizer and chairman of an original session at EASD as well as co-chairman at several international meetings. He has given more than 300 conferences worldwide. He acts as a regular reviewer for several international journals in the cardiovascular and metabolic fields.

 

Academic positions:


Dr Wiernsperger made his main career in the pharmaceutical industry but,as a recognized specialist of pathophysiology and pharmacology of cardiometabolic diseases, he was invited for many years to teach these domaines at Dijon ( France), Nancy (France) and Rio de Janeiro ( Brazil) Universities.

Being retired from industry, he works presently as an emeritus researcher affiliated to the INSERM U1060 Research Unit at Lyon University.
