Prof. Ho Sup Yoon

Brief Biography:


Prof. Ho Sup Yoon received BSc degree from Seoul National University in 1982 and MSc degree from Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology in 1984. He worked in Cancer Research Center at Seoul National University from 1984 to 1986. In 1987 he moved to Chicago, Illinois, USA for his PhD study. After he obtained his PhD degree from University of Chicago in 1993, he joined Abbott Laboratories, Illinois, USA, as Postdoctoral Research Fellow, and then promoted to Research Scientist, Senior Research Scientist and Research Investigator. During his stay at Abbott Laboratories, he was involved in various drug discovery projects and in particular played a key role in deciphering three-dimensional structures of Bcl-2 family proteins and developing Bcl-2/Bcl-XL inhibitors. In recognition of his contribution to the discovery of Bcl-2 and metalloproteinase antagonists he received Abbott Laboratories Drug Discovery Impact Award in 2000. He left Abbott early 2002 and joined School of Biological Sciences, Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore as a founding faculty member.

Dr. Ho Sup Yoon is Professor and Head of Structural Biology and Biochemistry, School of Biological Sciences, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore.

 

Research interests:


His research focuses on roles of Bcl-2 family and FKBP family proteins in cancer, malaria, and neurodegenerative diseases, transcription-independent mechanism of tumor suppressor protein p53 and phospholipid-membrane protein interaction during apoptosis.

WebMedCentral is a new paradigm for biomedical publication with author driven post publication peer review by the readership. I think it will facilitate rapid exchange of information in today’s scientific community.
