Brief Biography:


 

1. COMPETENCIES 

a. Molecular Biology and PCR: Genomic Cloning and DNA Sequencing, Genome Analysis, Gene Expression Analysis, cDNA Cloning and PCR Library Analysis, DNA Fingerprint Analysis and RNA Interference.

b. Protein profiling: 2-D gel electrophoresis, multidimensional liquid chromatography and affinity purification of protein complexes; MALDI and ESI high-sensitivity mass spectrometry including peptide mass mapping and tandem mass spectrometry, quantification, and phosphor-proteomics.

c. Functional proteomics: recombination cloning, high-throughput protein isolation, protein microarrays, use of  robots to execute high-throughput methods including expression, purification and characterization of proteins and also use of several bio-informatics tools in data analysis.

d. Molecular Approaches to Clinical Microbiology skills include: understanding microbial diversity at the species level: (16sRNA) and diversity at the subspecies level: (MLST); indexing diversity of genetically monomorphic bacteria: (VNTR and SNPS), identifying the diversity in the laboratory: (Real-time PCR), cataloguing and understanding diversity: (Bioinformatics approaches).

I am a 38 years old Nigerian Lecturer of Medical Microbiology, Immunology and Parasitology at Kampala International University, Uganda. I am married to a Lawyer Barrister (Mrs) Queen Ezera Agwu, with two children boy Joseph and girl Victoria.

Research interests:


To use genetic, molecular, cell biological and biochemical approaches in the study of the population structure, transmission dynamics, molecular epidemiology and mechanisms of antimicrobial drug resistance in Candida species, Cryptococcus species, Acinetobacter baumanii, malaria, Special pathogens causing tropical cases of fever of unknown origin, anemia and malnutrition, and agents of Neglected Tropical Disease with the ultimate goal of impacting on the design of strategies for effective treatment of related human diseases and complications.
