Brief Biography:


Dr. Stacey Herbert Brann is a double fellowship-trained cardiothoracic surgeon-researcher (Montreal Heart Institute,Canada and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, PA, USA). He is currently an Assistant Professor, Division of Cardiothoracic Surgery and Surgical Director, Cardiothoracic Intensive Care Unit at Temple University Hospital, Philadelphia, PA, USA.

Dr Brann holds a national committee appointment as the United Network for Organ Sharing Minority Affairs Committee, Region 2 Representative.

Dr. Brann is a graduate of the University of the West Indies, Jamaica and a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. He completed his Cardiothoracic Surgery Residency inBirmingham, England, then pursued a clinical and research Fellowship in Adult Cardiac Surgery at the Montreal Heart Institute, Canada. He was awarded the Master of Science with Distinction in Surgical Cardiology from the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine,University of London,UK.

Dr. Brann’s key strengths and interests include but are not limited to mechanical circulatory support; cardiopulmonary transplantation and clinical and experimental research on the surgical management of heart failure.

Dr. Brann’s administrative and research achievements include: Surgical Directorship of the Cardiopulmonary Research Unit, University of the West Indies, St Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago; Co-Principal Investigatorship during the development of a novel axial-flow Left Ventricular Assist Device at the Montreal Heart Institute Research Center, Canada as well as publications in international peer-reviewed journals on topics which include ventricular assist device use for refractory graft failure following heart transplantation, experimental cardiac transplantation and Off-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass (OPCAB) revascularization. He is a member of several prestigious organizations including the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation, Canadian Cardiovascular Society, European Association of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery and Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh,UK.
