Brief Biography:
Dr. Amar Kanekar is a physician by initial training from Mumbai, India. He went on to complete his residency training in Internal Medicine from Hinduja Hospital, Mumbai, India. He has earned his Master’s in Public Health specializing in Public Health Education from Western Kentucky University, Kentucky. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the department of health sciences at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Among various awards, he is the recipient of Robert Wurster International Student award and the alone international student to receive the ‘honorable’ student award at the 36th Annual Western Kentucky Student Research Conference. He was the past vice-president of Kentucky Public Health Association student chapter and also is a current member of the American Public Health Association and member of Society of Public Health Education. He has served on the Graduate council committee and the graduate student research committee in past and is also an affiliate member of the American Academy of Health Behavior. He worked for 2 yrs as an editorial assistant and and served on the editorial board of ‘Journal of Alcohol and Drug Education’ He has also earned the title of ‘Certified Health Education Specialist” and Certification in Public Health. Other than Health education , his areas of interest are infectious disease epidemiology and global health.
