Brief Biography:
Professor Alfonso Jimenez is Head of the Centre for Sports Science & Human Performance, School of Science, at the University of Greenwich. He holds a Ph.D. in Physiology (2003), a Bachelor in Exercise Sciences (1993), and different professional accreditations and certifications as CSCS and NSCA-CPT (both Recertified with Distinction). In 2007 he completed a postdoctoral training at Arizona State University (Exercise & Wellness Department) as International Scholar, Researcher & Lecturer, supported by a competitive grant from the Spain's Ministry of Education (Jose Castillejo Programme).
In April 2009 he was elected as Chairman of the Standards Council at the European Health & Fitness Association (www.ehfa.eu), a not-for-profit association based at Brussels that currently represents approx 9.000 health clubs and leisure centers and 18 national associations spread across 22 European countries. The Standards Council is responsible for the direction and strategic thinking for the developing regulatory framework which underpins public confidence in the work and development of the European Health & Fitness Industry and in a complex environment of European dimensions. In this role Professor Jimenez is leading different groups of experts from all of Europe to establish the Standards about people (regarding the European Qualifications Framework), programs (evidence-based structured exercise interventions) and places (sports facilities and fitness clubs) at European level.
