* President of the Italian Society of Ecology (SItE) for the period 2011-2013 (vice * President from 2007 to 2010).
* President of the Italian Association of Oceanology and Limnology (AIOL; www.infoaiol.org) since 2008.
* Vice-President of the European Federation of Marine Science and Technology Societies (EFMS).
* Member of the scientific council of the Census of Marine Life (www.coml.org) * Member of the Executive Committee of the European Census of Marine Life (www.eurocoml.org).
* Member of the SPC Beyond 2010. Responsible of the task force “Deep-sea” of the CIESM (www.ciesm.org) (till 2009).
* Member of the scientific council of the WWF Italy
* Member of the Scientific Council of the National Institute of Oceanography (OGS)
* Member of the Scientific Council of the High-Tech Recycling Consortium President of the Italian Chapter of EEIU Eco-Ethic International Union (www.eeiu.org).

Delegated of the Rector for the Scientific Research at the Polytechnic University of Marche. Director of the Department of Marine Sciences, full Professor in Marine Biology and Ecology at the Polytechnic University of Marche.

 

Research interests:


Scientific activity: Roberto Danovaro Research is focused on the development of a sin-ecologic and inter-disciplinary approach devoted to the study of the deep-sea biology, the identification of the links between biodiversity and ecosystem functioning and the production of goods and services for an eco-sustainable development.

Editorial activities:
* Since 2002 RD is Editor in Chief of the international journal Chemistry and Ecology (Taylor & Francis, London) and from 2009 is Editor in chief of the Advances in Oceanography and Limnology (new journal of the Taylor & Francis, London).
* RD has been member of the Editorial Board: Open Journal of Ecology (till 2009) and Oceanologica Acta (till 2005), member of the reviewer board of Marine Ecology progress Series.
* RD is currently member of the editorial board of the International Journals:
1. Open Journal of Marine Biology;
2. Transitional Water Bulletin;
3. Animals;
4. Diversity;
5. International Journal of Oceanography;
6. Honorary member of the Board of Research and Reports in Biodiversity Studies. RD collaborates as reviewer for >50 international journals, including Nature, Science, TREE and Current Biology.

 

What I think of the idea behind WebmedCentral:


The idea is simply great, I feel this is the future of scientific publications and the WebmedCentral revognition makes this initiative appealing and stimulating. I think this will be also a tool to enlarge the audience of scientists in all, even the most remote, places of the world.
