Brief Biography:


Paul Cristea graduated the Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications (UPB - University "Politehnica" of Bucharest, 1962) and the Faculty of Physics (University of Bucharest, 1969). He obtained a Ph.D. in Technical Physics (PUB, 1970). Since then his research and teaching activities covered an extended area of Electrical Engineering and related domains including topics like Digital Signal and Image Processing, Genomic Signals, Neural and Evolutionary Systems, Computerized Medical Equipment, Evolutionary Intelligent Agents, Intelligent e-Learning Environments. He is member of the Romanian Academy, the most prestigious recognition institution of Romania, Member of Honor of the Romanian Scientists Academy, Fellow IEEE, director of the Bio-Medical Engineering Center of UPB and director of the Romanian Bioinformatics Society.
 

Academic positions:


• 1990-2011 – Master and PhD adviser in the domains Electrical Engineering and Information Technology Applications. • 1990- 2008 – Director of Studies at Department of Engineers Sciences (in present FILS – Faculty of Engineering in Foreign Languages at UPB, the first of its in Romania, with all courses in English, French and German (1990),having now more 1500 students. He was instrumental in developing the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Division of his new school. • 1990- 1992 – Adviser to the Secretary of State at the Department of Science, Ministry of Education and Science, involved in elaborating the department policy and priority research domains. • 1990- 1992 – Vice-Rector of the University “Politehnica” of Bucharest (1990-1992), in the PhD Studies and Research domain. • October 1, 1990 – present – Full Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Courses of Electrical Engineering, Circuit Theory, Digital Signal and Image Processing, Neural Networks, Bioinformatics, System Biology at the Faculty of Control Systems and Computer Science and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Foreign Languages. • September 1, 1973 – September 30, 1990 – Associated Professor • February 15, 1969 – August 31, 1973 – Lecturer, • October 16, 1962 – February 14, 1969 – Assistant.
