Brief Biography:
Marc received his doctorate in Oncological Sciences from the University of Utah in 1998 and is now a Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at St. John’s University College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions. He served as the interim director of the Institute for Biotechnology and currently Chairs the Institutional Biosafety and College Assessment Committees. In the past three years he led the PharmD program through accreditation and chaired a subsection of the University's Middle States accreditation. At the National level he is a recurring participant in the EPA's STAR Fellowship review panel, and served on the EPAs early Nanotechnology peer review board.
Marc is a consulting editor and curator with the Reactome Project (reactome.org), a pathway database of cellular level processes from "simple" events (biochemical reactions), to "complex" biological process (cell cycle). This project is a multinational effort to integrate the overwhelming proliferation of genomic data into a human readable and computationally tractable database. He leads a toxicogenomics research group focused on bioinformatics and biomarker discovery. Current projects range from the identification of chronic low-level lead exposure and manganese toxicity biomarkers to the mechanics of inflammatory inhibitor release.
Academic positions:
Taught courses in pharmacogenomics, public health, human anatomy & physiology, toxicogenomics, and molecular biology with experience from academia and industry to public health policy. Served as the interim director of the Institute for Biotechnology and currently Chairs the Institutional Biosafety and College Assessment Committees. In the past led the College of Pharmacy through ACPE accreditation and has chaired a subsection of the University's Middle States accreditation. At the National level he is a recurring participant in the EPA's STAR Fellowship review panel.
Research interests:
Trained as a molecular biologist currently conducting research in public health, toxicology, bioinformatics, protein biochemistry, and proteomics. Primarily working in bioinformatics while crossing numerous disciplines including computer science, health informatics and toxicology.
