Dear Dr. Amin,

We appreciate your interest and comments concerning our manuscript. This paper can be viewed as being a preliminary description of a proposed model. The goal of presenting this model is to suggest that the model could be useful in explaining the repetitive nature of epidemics of various diseases.

Dear Dr. Johan,

We appreciate your interest and comments concerning our manuscript. The choice of using the variables sick and well instead of infected and non-infected was based in part to enhance the readability of the equations. The numerical values that were chosen for the simulation that appears in the paper were selected in order to illustrate the model. In the future, more realistic values should be chosen to conform with historical data. The incorporation of vaccines into the model is certainly warranted in a future study.
