This retrospective cohort study identified factors predicting mortality which have been found to be predictive of severe acute pancreatitis in prospective studies in this population. Markers of organ failure ( BUN , creatinine ) and volume depletion (hematocrit) are again shown to be the best predictors. The study is well conducted but does not add significantly to the body of literature that already exists in this field.
