    It has been a case report of a young patient with mental retardation and epilepsy, presenting with prolonged course of herpes simplex encephalitis This report indicates once more the importance of treatment with intravenous acyclovir (ACV) for three weeks which gave a favorable outcome.

    We had also a patient with HSE. We had begun the treatment as early as possible and decompressive surgery was also employed. After than, the prognosis of patient was favorable with mild cognitive defisit.
