Dr. Michael Mathis

Brief Biography:


Dr. Michael Mathis was a graduate of Texas A&M University with a B.S. in Chemistry in 1982 and the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center with a Ph.D. in Biochemistry in 1988. He received postdoctoral training from 1988 to 1992 in the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at the University of California, San Diego. His first faculty position was in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology as Assistant Professor at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center from 1992 to 1997. He joined the Department of Cellular Biology and Anatomy at LSU Health Sciences Center as Assistant Professor in Shreveport in 1997. He became Associate Professor in 1999 and Professor in 2006. In 2001, he organized and became Director of the Gene and Cell Therapy Program. Dr. Mathis has received research funding and as served on grant review panels for numerous funding agencies, including the National Institutes of Health, the Department of Defense, and the Susan G. Komen for the Cure. He has authored more than 80 publications and has one patent pending. In 2011, he completed a Master's degree in Health Administration from Louisiana State University in Shreveport.
