Dr. Dejan Stevanovic

Researcher/Clinician
Department of Psychiatry, Clinic for Neurology and Psychiatry for Children and Youth

Brief Biography:

Initially as a graduate, than as a general practitioner, and now as a child psychiatry trainee, I have organized several projects with the objectives to research quality of life in different pediatric populations in Serbia. From 2004, my research was directed towards more structural assessments, providing clearer definitions for procedures and the concept itself. The most important issues emphasized are the cross-cultural settings of quality of life.

I have set aside quality of life concept for pediatric population, methodological procedures, and evolutional strategies. Working on the concept, I have developed strategies for all potential researchers and clinicians, how to connect quality of life with a given health topic and what dimensions shall be evaluated. Additionally, they are instructed how to select appropriate measurement procedures, how to collect quality of life data, and how to report them. A particular emphasis is given on culturally sensitive quality of life observations. My work is published in several international and national journals.

What I think of the idea behind WebmedCentral:

When I received an advertisement about WebMedCentral, I was very happy that such a “thing” is invented finally. Working in a developing country and heavily trying to publish in international journals is challenging for me. Quite often, I felt that my article is just rejected because I am from Serbia or there was no enough transparency in reviewing processes. Moreover, some editors even did not want to consider seeing rejected articles again, if I asked for. As a young researcher, I was asking for more transparency in publishing and more “place” for us who see more than currently needed or expected in science. WebMedCentral offers transparency in publishing, while post-publication reviews will “judge” about the quality of a publication.
