Brief Biography:


Alekha K. Dash, R.Ph., Ph.D.

Dr. Alekha K. Dash received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in pharmacy in 1981 and 1983 respectively, from Jadavpur University, India, and a Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota in 1990. He has been a member of the Creighton University School of Pharmacy and Health Professions faculty since 1990. He is professor and chair of the Department of Pharmacy Sciences. He holds the Gilbert F. Taffe Jr. Endowed Chair of Pharmacy at the School.

Dr. Dash’s research interests include design and evaluation of novel drug delivery systems, preformulation studies, solid-state characterization of drugs and dosage forms, pharmaceutical analysis, and evaluation and design of dosage forms for nutraceuticals. His teaching responsibilities have included basic pharmaceutics, pharmaceutical analysis, physical pharmacy, solid-state pharmacy, independent research, and industrial pharmacy.

Dr. Dash has received several awards for teaching, research, and service.  He has more than 50 publications in peer-reviewed and professional journals.  He has one patent, with two others pending. He is a member of six professional societies, serves on numerous editorial boards, and is a reviewer for 20 peer-reviewed journals.  Dr. Dash has authored chapters in a number of texts, and has been invited to present at the international, national, and local levels.

1990-1995- Assistant Professor, Department of Pharmaceutical and Administrative Sciences, Creighton University, Omaha, Nebraska.

1994-present- Adjunct Professor, Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, Nebraska.

 

Research interests:


(1) Design and Evaluation of Drug Delivery Systems. Nanodelivery system design.

(2) Preformulation Studies.

(3) Solid-State Characterization of Drugs and Dosage Forms.

(4) Pharmaceutical Analysis Utilizing the Following Techniques: HPLC, GC, GC-MS, Thermoanalytical methods, IR, Powder X-ray Diffraction and Scanning Electron Microscopy.

(5) Evaluation and Design of Dosage Forms for Nutraceuticals.
