Dr. Karunamoorthi Kaliyaperumal

Brief Biography:


Kaliyaperumal Karunamoorthi holds the Post graduate degree in Medical Entomology from the Vector Control Research Center (Indian Council of Medical Research), Pondicherry, India. He has been awarded the World Health Organization (WHO) studentship during his study. Subsequently he has earned his M.Phil., degree from Annamalai University, and has worked as an Assistant Professor in Medical Entomology, for about six years in India. He is currently serving as Assistant Professor in Medical Entomology at Jimma University, Ethiopia, for the past eight years. Besides, he has completed his Ph.D in Medical Entomology with his main foci of research being largely on plant-based products against insect vector of diseases (especially mosquitoes). In the recent years his research is largely focused on plant-based antimalarial products too. He has published several research articles in various internationally reputed journals in the area of medicinal and aromatic plants, medical entomology, pesticide poisoning, innovative personal protection measures, vector biology and control.

Monitoring and evaluation of bio-control of insect vectors

Identifying new plants derived products against mosquito vectors of diseases.

Designing of innovative as well novel personal protection strategies in order to reduce the man-vector contact.

Conducting Ethnobotanical survey to preserve the indigenous traditional knowledge regarding repellent/insecticidal plants.
