Dr. Dave Siak-Wei Ow

Brief Biography:


Dave Siak-Wei Ow is currently a Research Scientist at Bioprocessing Technology Institute, Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) in Singapore. He is also the Principal Investigator of an on-going A*STAR Joint Council project on Microfluidic Acoustic Cavitation for Biological Applications. Dave received his B.Sc. in Advanced Life Sciences (Food science) in 2001 as a recipient of the UNSW Golden Jubilee Scholar in the University of New South Wales. He received his Ph.D. in Integrative Sciences and Engineering from the National University of Singapore in 2007. His thesis topic was on the metabolic engineering and system biotechnology studies of E. coli producing DNA vaccines. From 2007 to March 2010, he was a Research Fellow in the Microbial Cells group of Bioprocessing Technology Institute before he joined the Biomolecular Mass Spectrometry and Proteomics group (Utrecht University, Netherlands) for 18 months supported by a prestigious post-doctorate fellowship from A*STAR. He has co-authored more than 12 journal papers and book chapters related to microbial biotechnology, the transcriptomic and proteomic sciences, and lab-on-chip bio-applications.

-Analysis of cellular phospho-signaling and metabolic networks using a systems-level proteomics and transcriptomics approach
-Development of acoustically driven microfluidic devices for biological applications
-Metabolic engineering of industrially-relevant strains
-Production of recombinant DNA vaccines and antibody fragments from microbial cells

The idea is promising for it could bring together experts of many research fields in the scientific community in a cost-efficient and rapid manner, triggering knowledge exchange and further the development of biotechnological research.
