Dr. Rebecca Cunningham

Research Assistant Professor
Department of Pharmacology and Neuroscience, University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth
3500 Camp Bowie Blvd; CBH 539

Brief Biography:

The goal of the Cunningham lab is to study the role of steroid hormones, specifically androgens, during development and aging. Most of our research has been focused on androgen signaling mechanisms and defining the effects of androgens on dopamine neuronal function in the central nervous system. One of our long-term goals is to determine how development and aging alters steroid hormonal responses in the central nervous system. In order to pursue this goal, we use both in vitro and in vivo approaches to understand the cellular and whole animal effects of our interventions. It is hoped that this research will not only expand our understanding of how steroid hormones in the brain participates in development and aging but also provide new insights that lead to a better understanding of the role of gender in aging-related central nervous system disorders.
