Dr. Mahesh Joshi

Brief Biography:


After obtaining PhD from University of Mysore (India) in Biochemistry, moved to US to work as Post doc in Duke University. The work focused on biosynthesis pathway of molebdenum cofactor in E. coli. In 1995 moved to LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, LA. Over the next 10 years carried out extensive work on nitric oxide biology that included its reactions with other reactive oxygen species and hemoglobin. This work was published in frontline journals like PNAS and JBC. As an off shoot of these investigations, started a major project to demonstrate that agmatine, a decarboxylated arginine as a novel vasodilator, using both isolated endothelial cells and rat mesenteric arteries. This work in presently pursued at Florida International University.
