Dr. Shankar Shastry

Senior Scientist
Genapsys

Brief Biography:

I earned my Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from the Pennsylvania State University, where I investigated the biochemical and biophysical properties of the motor protein kinein. I then conducted research at the National Cancer Institute, on molecular chaperones to investigate their role in protein refolding. Subsequently I moved to UCSC, where I investigated the biophysics and biochemical properties of telomere DNA and the enzyme telomerase. In my current research, I focus on DNA polymerases. I have published articles in leading journals including PNAS, Currentl Biology, Nature Communications, Nucleic Acids Research to name a few.

Academic positions:

Post doctoral Scholar at UCSC, Visiting Scholar at NIH (NCI)

Research interests:

Next generation sequencing, protein engineering, biochemistry, enzymology, Drug Design & Discovery

What I think of the idea behind WebmedCentral:

I believe that this is a novel idea and the process seems designed to keep everything transparent. This will hopefully enable both reviewers and authors to adhere to the highest standards of quality and ethics.
