  • What are the main claims of the paper and how important are they?

Although the main claims of the paper are that unlike common belief that demographic and health variables determine the decision to abort it is childhood mistreatment, and family hostory which are the closesr predictors including history of mothers prior abortion, inabilkity to grieve their mothers pregnancy loss & h/o chance of being aborted themselves.Although the factors that the author has analyzed as a demographgically importantimportant cause of future pregnancy outcome i think the title is misleadingas he has not used adolescents to study but determines factors which would be the likely causes of patient aborting or not and a better name for the article would be factors which influence pregnancy outcome globally.

  • Are these claims novel? If not, please specify papers that weaken the claims to the originality of this one.

no-With the name of the article misleading as author analyzes in results women under 30years and not indicating adolescent AGE-fOR adolescent age-Parazzini et al -Temporal trends in adolescent pregnancies in LombARDY ITALY-1996-2010-Eur Contracept Reprod Health Care-2013;jan 21 ahead of print where studied outcome of teenage pregnancies in girls from 13-19yrs2)Wang et al -Adolescent mothers and older mothers :who is at higher risk for adverse birth outcomes-Public Health 2012;126:1038-43where they compared outcimes in adolescent 15-18yrs and older 35-49 yrs to determine adverse outcome factors 3)Reese et al-The association between sequences of sexual initiation and the likelihood of teenage pregnancy-J Adolesc Health 2013;52:228--33-where they studied likelihood of teenage pregnancy in women under 20yrs-6069 women and likelihood of teenage pregnancy if oral sex used for initiation egs of factors whic h affect pregnancy loss are4) de Jongh et al-The differential effects of maternal age,rade/ethnicity and insurance on neonatal intensive care unit admission rates-BMC Pregnancy Childbirth 2012;12:97is more apt &5)Miranda et al-Seaonality of p[oor pregnancy outcomes in north carolina-NCMed J 2011;72:447-53.although author has not studied seasonal variation 6)Islam MM-Effects of consanguineius marriage on reproductive behaviour, adverse pregnancy outcome and offspring mortaLITY IN OMAN-aNN hUM bIOL 2013 Feb 5 epub ahead of print where consanguineous marriage

  • Are the claims properly placed in the context of the previous literature?

Yes but the article doesnt make anysense with the name factors that determine adolescent pregnancy pitcomeand the title is misleading although the results make good sense in terms of total demographic view.

  • Do the results support the claims? If not, what other evidence is required?

The author has to change the title first ,otherwise results become meaningless although well worked out.

  • If a protocol is provided, for example for a randomized controlled trial, are there any important deviations from it? If so, have the authors explained adequately why the deviations occurred?

The author used 375 unselected patients out of which 312 women and 63 men with 30%from his psychiatric practice and rest healthy above average intelligent trainees for group counselling-no age group specified in the protocol but in results author concludes women under 30 years what the most significant factors affect fullterm outcome-but with this title the whole concept gets defied and name should be changed to fasctors that affect pregnancy losses although results make sense on a demographic way with irrespective of marriage ,partner support and mothers views on previous abortion affects outcome with mother having had no losses and with no sexual abuse better chances of good outcome and proper statistucal analysis done although better ratio of male and female patients may have been better but basic outcome is of pregnancy outcome from women so immatrial.

  • Is the methodology valid? Does the paper offer enough details of its methodology that its experiments or its analyses could be reproduced?

    Yes

  • Would any other experiments or additional information improve the paper? How much better would the paper be if this extra work was done, and how difficult would such work be to do, or to provide?

Yes-first thing the title should be changed to factoes that affect pregnancy outcome globally with role of psychiatric factors as well and author should add references to support that aspect rather than name factors that determine adolescent pregnancy outcome which doesnt make sense.

  • Is this paper outstanding in its discipline? (For example, would you like to see this work presented in a seminar at your hospital or university? Do you feel these results need to be incorporated in your next general lecture on the subject?) If yes, what makes it outstanding? If not, why not?

No-with the name it is meaningless that is factors that determiner adolescent pregnancy outcome as population of patients are upto 30 years if not elder as well which defies definition of adolescence.

  • Other Comments:

The author needs to improve the paper &quote latest references regarding factors that affect prehnancy outcome as his results are of significance with a global perspective but the way written isnt making sense with definition of adolescence not only matching with the subjects studied.

No, most of the references in the study had the same claim.

  • Are the claims properly placed in the context of the previous literature?

Yes properly placed to raise the importance of the subject and the study.

  • Do the results support the claims? If not, what other evidence is required?

No, results help to plan to solve the proplem.

  • If a protocol is provided, for example for a randomized controlled trial, are there any important deviations from it? If so, have the authors explained adequately why the deviations occurred?

    Protocol not detailed or clear.

  • Is the methodology valid? Does the paper offer enough details of its methodology that its experiments or its analyses could be reproduced?

    Methodology not available.

  • Would any other experiments or additional information improve the paper? How much better would the paper be if this extra work was done, and how difficult would such work be to do, or to provide?

Yes detailed protocol or referal to published protocol would make big difference. Also, figure containing copy of the questionier would be helpfull.
