Dr. Lucian Baia

Associate Professor (PhD)
Babes-Bolyai University

Romania

Biography:

Lucian Baia was born in Tarnaveni, Romania, in 1971. He received the licence degree in Engineering (machine manufacturing) from the Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, Romania, in 1995, and the licence degree in physics (mathematical-physics) from the Babes-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca, in 1998. He earned the master’s degree in physics of the oxide materials in 1999 from the Babes-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca and his PhD degree in 2003 at the Julius-Maximilians University Würzburg, Germany (. In 2003 he began the academic career as lecturer at the Faculty of Physics of the Babes-Bolyai University of Cluj-Napoca. Between October 2005 and July 2006 he worked with Prof. Jürgen Popp’s group as a postdoctoral research fellow at the Friedrich-Schiller University of Jena, Germany. Since 2008 he became associate professor at the Condesed State Physics and Advanced Technologies Department of the Physics Faculty at the Babes-Bolyai University. His current research focuses on the obtaining porous and highly porous nano-architectures with controllable morphology and structure for biomedical and environmental applications and their characterization by Raman, IR, UV-vis and SERS spectroscopic techniques as well as XRD and adsorption/desorption measurements. He is author or co-author of more than 50 peer-reviewed publications, three books and two book chapters.

Research interests:

The main research fields:

- Synthesis of porous and highly porous nano-architectures with controllable morphology and structure for biomedical and environmental applications and their characterization by Raman, IR, UV-vis and SERS spectroscopic techniques as well as XRD, TEM and N2 adsorption/desorption measurements.

? Structural analyses of undoped and transition metal oxides doped glasses and glass-ceramics with special physical properties by means of complementary techniques (Raman, IR and UV-Vis spectroscopy, XRD).

What I think of the idea behind WebmedCentral:

The most important benefit brings out by the idea behind WebmedCentral is in my opinion that it can lead to a real competition of valuable ideas that consequently would give rise to significant developments in the biomedical this field.
